Studio B is all about local artists. We strive to encourage, promote, and produce the work of the vibrant, creative citizens of Maplewood and South Orange. We work with visual artists, filmmakers, writers, dancers, photographers, musicians — and other riff raff — to create collaborative, performance - based events, or to showcase individual talents.

We are dedicated to giving our world-class artists a place to strut their stuff - right here in Maplewood. We think this is a great idea for three reasons: it gives local talent a chance to launch new work, it helps create connections and cross-pollination among a multi-disciplinary artscape, and it makes the people who live here darn proud. Because, after all, this is what art does best: it creates community.

MARCY THOMPSON

Marcy Thompson (Honcho) has been producing theatrical events for the past 10 years; first in Brooklyn as the head of the Hyperbolic Entertainment Conglomerate, LLC, and now as the co-founder of Studio B in Maplewood, New Jersey. Until recently, Ms. Thompson served as the Director of Cultural Affairs for the Township of Maplewood, New Jersey where she founded the Maplewood Arts Council, managed the Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts, and worked to support and promote local arts organizations. She has worked extensively as a speechwriter, ghostwriter, as well as a choreographer. Ms. Thompson has a Master’s Degree in Performance Studies from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She has been a member of the Essex County Arts Advisory Board since 2010.

JENNY TURNER HALL

Jenny Turner Hall (Honcho) enjoyed a career in the NYC film business for ten years: from freelance producing, to production coordinating at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, to supporting assistant directors at the Directors Guild of America (AD Training Program). She’s been a member of various rising theater companies—writing, directing, or performing in shows at Joe’s Pub, Collective Unconscious, HERE, and the landmark music venue Tonic. She is a screenwriter and essayist, currently penning a collection of stories at a publisher’s request. As a performer, she was asked to join the 2010 LAByrinth Theater Master Class. Since moving to Maplewood, she “keeps it real” running a literary salon out of her basement. It was the salon that led to her partnership with Marcy and the genesis of Studio B.
